H.264 encoding with Windows Media foundation

Windows has added H.264 encoding since Windows 7. It auto makes use of hardware acceleration when it’s available.

using the same hardware as previous tests, it supports Intel Quick Sync Video(QSV).

CPU usage is 3~4% when using Intel QSV;

The advantages:

1. small binary footprint, only 57KB

2. supports multi encoders, software-only, or available hardware.

 

The disadvantages:

1. less control over quality

2. limited by OS version

3.  less efficient comparing to use Intel Media SDK directly
