a patch for windows 8 release preview 32bit

a patch for windows 8 release preview 32bit

1. put the bootmgr into your boot partition, replace the original one. you may need a partition manager tool to make the partition visible.
2. copy ntkrnlye.exe/winldye.exe to your system32 folder, note,they are from 32bit win8,never try to copy them into a 64bit os!
3. create a new boot entry,using the kernel ntkrnlye.exe, and the osloader winldye.exe, just like this:
identifier {current}
device partition=C:
path \windows\system32\winldye.exe
description Windows 8
locale en-US
osdevice partition=C:
systemroot \WINDOWS
kernel ntkrnlye.exe
resumeobject {580de4d0-a86e-11e1-b53f-806e6f6e6963}
nx OptIn
pae ForceEnable

the key points:
path: \windows\system32\winldye.exe
kernel: ntkrnlye.exe
pae: forceenable

4. go to system32 folder ,find a file named slui.exe, take the ownership, rename it to other name,eg, slui#.exe.
5. that’s all.
now you have an evaluation version of windows 8 release preview, never expire, can use all your physical memory in 32bit os.

  1. I have a 1.6ghz pentium m dothan I’m trying install windows 8 rtm but get error-0xc0000260

    The following two are issues I believe:
    400mhz fsb
    PAE/NX (cannot enabled via bios as bios doesn’t have advanced settings)
    coreinfo tests show sse2 PAE/NX ok

    Will your patch force the install? should I do something different to above as its rtm ?
